Eyebrows are more important now than ever, whether you want statement brows, simple tidy brows, or want to fill in brows after overplucking or replace them due to getting a little older, microblading may be the treatment you have been looking for. If you spend too much time filling in your eyebrows every day, want to frame your face better or simply fix uneven patchy brows this great treatment may be for you!

What is Microblading

It’s a semi-permanent procedure, and a good technician will be able to create the best shape for your face. Using a special tool (a bit like a pen, with 10-12 tiny needles at the end), the technician will lightly scratch the surface of your skin in very light strokes. Medical-grade pigment will create the illusion of eyebrow hair. As it only involves the epidermal layer of the skin, it’s not permanent like a tattoo – it lasts for around 18 months on average, and gradually fades in that time frame.

The process is like this:

  • First, your eyebrows will be threaded to remove stray hairs
  • Next, numbing cream will be applied. This takes around 40 minutes to kick in, so in the meantime, you can discuss the shape and colour you’d like (or just sit back and relax!)
  • The technician will gently implant the skin using the tool, going a pace that suits you
  • A final layer of pigment is added, which stays on for 5 minutes. Then the area will be cleaned – and you’re done!
  • 6-8 weeks later, you can go back for a top-up treatment, to fill in any unwanted gaps

The application of numbing cream means that it shouldn’t hurt – you will feel a sensation, but you shouldn’t feel any pain.

The aftercare is pretty simple. Just avoid picking or scratching (your eyebrows may start to heal over and cause a bit of irritation, but this is normal), and use a gentle face wash on your eyebrows every morning and night (make sure it doesn’t contain acids or exfoliants). You can also apply a bit of coconut oil to your eyebrows twice a day.

It can be undone using a salt and saline solution. However, it’s normal to think your newly ‘microbladed’ eyebrows are too dark to start with – they can appear very dark straight after the treatment. After around 7-10 days, the real colour will start to come out, so it’s worth waiting to see how it looks.

There are tons of benefits to microblading. It looks incredibly natural, so if you want to avoid the Sharpie-eyebrow look, it’s a great choice.  It can last for up to 18 months, depending on your skin type, which means you won’t have to keep going back regularly. Plus, it could potentially save you a ton of time in the mornings.

If you’re looking for an eyebrow update, microblading is well worth checking out – properly shaped eyebrows can make a huge difference to how you look and feel!
