You may have heard of a treatment called Advanced Light Therapy, or Lumineo. Using a Neo Elegance Lumineo device, it is now possible to target your skin’s specific problem areas. It is a relaxing fast, effective treatment, and is available at Koha Skin Clinic in Berkhamsted.
But what is Advanced Light Therapy, and what are the benefits? Here’s everything you need to know:
What is Advanced Light Therapy?
LED (or Light Emitting Diode) has several benefits. Using targeted waves of light, we can stimulate the production of elastin, collagen, and antioxidants, as well as improve circulation and blood flow. It can be used on any part of the body, and weekly sessions can be ideal for treating specific skin problems.
Initially developed by NASA to boost plant growth on shuttle missions, LED light therapy is now a popular treatment for anti-ageing and reducing inflammation. It’s a quick, convenient treatment that slots into most people’s lifestyles – easy to fit into your lunch break.
It can also be used in conjunction with other skin treatments such as microdermabrasion, as it can help to soothe the skin after more invasive treatments.
Which Skin Types Suit Advanced Light Therapy?
All types of skin can benefit from Advanced Light Therapy. Whether you want to boost collagen production, reduce inflammation, treat spots or treat hyperpigmentation, Advanced Light Therapy can help, as each session can be tailored to suit you.
Who Should Avoid Advanced Light Therapy?
There are a few people that should steer clear of this treatment, including:
- People with epilepsy
- Migraine sufferers
- People suffering from photo-allergies and medications that cause light sensitivity (for example, if you are taking certain acne treatments)
What Happens During Treatment?
All you have to do is lie back and relax! You will be asked to wear goggles to protect your eyes from the light. We will place the machine on the area that requires treatment (this is usually the face, back, or hands). Each session takes around 20-30 minutes to complete.
What Happens Afterwards?
You can carry on as you usually would. You don’t have to worry about recovery time or feeling sore or sensitive afterwards. You don’t have to do anything particularly special with your skin afterwards, either, although we do recommend that you avoid swimming, saunas and steam rooms for 12 hours following treatment. For the best results, we’d also advise enjoying LED treatments a couple of times every week.
